INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

  • Hub 17 73 Wave St Staten Island, NY, 10304 United States (map)

Let’s Get Radical!!

Hosts - Phyllis Forman, Lorie Honor, Kimbra Eberly

We know what’s broken but there are successes to celebrate, joy to share and things to DO:

*The Fully Ratified Equal Rights Amendment!! (The Great 28 was ratified when Virginia ratified in 2020…and President Biden acknowledged the ratification as the law of the land on January 17, 2025..) Learn more about the modern day ERA movement here!

*New York’s Equal Rights Amendment Proposition One-passed by popular vote (EVEN here in Staten Island!!!) in November 2024!

So let’s commune and console, make things, break things, sing, share and prepare!

Schedule of Panels/Mini Workshops and Screenings:

12-5pm - Open meet and greet-and Craftivism:
Crochet/Knit a square (or 2 or 28) for a Staten Island International Women’s Day Flag (knit and crochet avail all day! Bring yarn and needles to share if you have!)

1-1:30pm Breath and Movement

1:30-2:30pm Screening RATIFIED
is a feature documentary about the 100-year struggle for constitutional gender equality, an inspiring story of a multi-racial, multi-generational, bi-partisan effort to make Virginia the 38th and final state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. It's also a story of how bureaucracy is used to stifle progress, and it takes a close look at the incredible perseverance of women - specifically, the Black women leaders who have taken their rightful place at the front of the movement for gender equality.

2:30-3:15pm “What’s a Girl to Do?”
Panel discussion on mental health and wellness in difficult times Dr. Simone Andrews

3:30-4:30pm  Group SING!!!!
Staten Island’s version of PUB CHOIR
Sing out in 3 part harmony with Jeannine Otis, Joan Cadell, Phyllis Forman. Additional singers Joan Moore and Hawley Hussey will be there. We’ll learn a song, lock arms and belt it out! It’s actually GOOD for you~!!! (check out the SCIENCE of group sing and hurry before the NIH takes it down!!!)
