TELLING OUR STORIES FROM THE INSIDE OUT-AN ARCHIVE OF WEST AFRICAN CULTURAL HERITAGE ON STATEN ISLAND
Staten Island Arts is proud to present their first ever “Cultural Feedback Project” in partnership with the Alan Lomax Archive, United States Sierra Leone Association, Ghanaian Association of Staten Island and NAPELA. The Cultural Feedback Project exhibition is the culmination of over 100 hours of video, 2,500 photographs and more than 40 hours of audio interviews presented in the Cultural Lounge on March 26, 2015. Throughout the Spring & Summer, the folklife series will feature various indigenous presentations including a Ghanaian Kente cloth weaving demonstration, African Story Circle, a children’s dance showcase and an evening of short films by West African directors in collaboration with the African Film Festival of New York. The Cultural Feedback Project is supported with generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, Department of Cultural Affairs, Con Edison and the Nicotra Foundation.
