LUMEN Video and Performance Art Festival - Saturday June 25th
LUMEN is an authentic contemporary art experience in New York City featuring emerging and established artists. LUMEN’s goal is connecting artists with the community all while exposed in a nomadic alternative space. The annual event brings original visual, performance and installation art to new audiences, under the artistic vision of various curators from across NYC.
When you walk through the ferry side entrance to Lumen this year you will be greeted by 18 yellow and black 12"x36" Danger signs with grow lights and hanging planters to hold flowers in pots. Hub 17 artist Douglas LaTourette's installation is simply titled "Flowering Plants that Support Bees". He will also be there providing literature about what gardeners can do to help bees which are in serious jeopardy. Happy consequences include the yellow reflective part of the signs are small honeycombs. When lit the grow lights add new life to the crystalline salt that has penetrated the timbers that the signs are hung from.
